WRITTEN BY :   Eric Pierce

Dr. Jacquelin Perry, considered the world authority on gait analysis and a leader in rehabilitation medicine, died Monday at her Downey home. She was 94.

Perry’s career in medicine goes back decades, to when she conducted pioneering gait research in the biomechanics laboratory at UC San Francisco in the 1940s.

Board certified in orthopedic surgery, Perry was emeritus chief of the Polio and Gait Clinic and Pathokinseiology Program at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, which named its neuro-trauma unit in Perry’s honor in 1996.

Perry had been honored dozens of times throughout her career, including being named Woman of the Year for Medicine in Southern California by the Los Angeles Times in 1959 and Physician of the Year in 1994 by the state of California.

Greg Waskul, executive director of the Rancho Los Amigos Foundation, is working on a full obituary that will appear in this week’s newspaper.
