The Downey Unified School District released the following statement tonight regarding Dodi Soza, the Downey High School junior football player who collapsed Thursday afternoon:
“On Thursday afternoon, a Downey High School football player collapsed on the field during a Downey HS vs Lynwood game at Lynwood HS.
The student was transferred to St. Francis Hospital for medical treatment and subsequently transferred to Long Beach Memorial’s children’s trauma center.
In support of our student and his deep love of the sport, the scheduled football game tonight between DHS and Lynwood will be played as planned.
Also in support of our student and his family ….DHS players, staff, students, and fans will be wearing white and DHS football players will be wearing a sticker on their helmets.
Counselors and school psychologists were made available to students and staff throughout the day and are available tonight and throughout the upcoming week.
Our thoughts and prayers are with our student and his family.”
