DOWNEY – East Middle School was placed on a precautionary lockdown Tuesday afternoon after police launched an area-wide search for three male suspects involved in a residential burglary on the 10200 block of Cord Avenue.

While two of the suspects have been taken into custody, a third continues to evade arrest.

According to Captain Dean Milligan of the Downey Police Department, a local resident called police at 1:20 p.m. after noticing two suspicious subjects on foot, knocking on the front doors of several homes on the block.

“They were being followed by another subject in a vehicle,” said Milligan in a released statement. “Officers arrived and saw two subjects running from the area and jumping fences. The vehicle that had been following them was located and stopped.”

East Middle School was notified of the situation and the campus was locked down as a safety measure. After the first two suspects were captured, the lockdown was lifted.

Milligan confirmed that a residential burglary did occur in the area of Cord Avenue, but was unable to verify what was stolen.

Downey police have set up a perimeter in the area and are currently searching for the remaining suspect. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department is assisting in the search via helicopter.
