The City of Downey’s Housing Division is offering grants and rebates to help eligible residents pay for home improvement projects.
These incentives are federally funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis until funds are spent.
The city is offering two grants: the grant program and the rebate program.
Under the grant program, residents may be eligible for up to $10,000 for home improvement projects that may be used for exterior painting, the correction of code enforcement violations, accessibility improvements for the physically disabled and to fix health and safety concerns.
The rebate program offers residents a rebate of up to $10,000 for the improvement of their home. Based on household income, residents may qualify for a fifty percent (50%) or an eighty percent (80%) rebate. The rebate will be given after the approved scope of work has been completed and the proof of payment has been confirmed.
Some of the eligible improvements include plumbing, heating/cooling systems, exterior painting, insulation and driveway repair.
More detailed information regarding eligibility for these Home Improvement programs can be obtained by visiting the city’s website at downeyca.org or by calling the City’s Housing Division at (562) 904-7161.
