Former police chief hired in Irwindale

Roy Campos, who spent 30 years with the Downey Police Department including the last four as police chief, has been hired to run Irwindale’s police department on an interim basis.

Campos, 55, retired from Downey in 2009. He was hired as interim police chief in Signal Hill in November 2010, where he remained for six months.

Irwindale will pay Campos $78 per hour as it recruits a permanent chief of police.

Campos draws an annual pension of about $191,000.
