Franco calls out Saab in mailer
WRITTEN BY :   Eric Pierce

If it wasn’t already clear that the race for City Council’s District 5 seat is strictly a two-man race, it is now.

In a new Salvador Franco mailer that landed in mailboxes this weekend, the former Bell Gardens councilman appeals to Democratic voters and specifically calls out challenger Alex Saab for being “a REPUBLICAN.” (In the mailer, “Republican” is in all-caps and red font.)

“Salvador Franco is a lifelong Democrat,” the mailer reads. “He is the only candidate endorsed by the Democratic Party for City Council in District 5. The other candidate, Alex Saab – he’s a REPUBLICAN. We need a true voice for the middle class to keep our City moving forward.”

In the mailer, Franco repeats his promise to “bring over 100 new businesses” to Downey (something that will happen anyway in the next couple years with Tierra Luna and Downey Gateway) and “improve our fire department to ensure we are always safe and protected.”

Whether Franco is referring to Downey or County Fire is unclear.
