Friends of Darwin Callejas raising money for funeral
WRITTEN BY :   Eric Pierce

Friends of Darwin Callejas, the 23-year-old Downey man killed Saturday after crashing his motorcycle, are raising money to assist his family with funeral costs.

Callejas worked at S&H Automotive, a car repair and customization shop on Downey Avenue, not far from where Callejas died Saturday.

Police say Callejas tried to pass a Volkswagen on Phlox Street but instead sideswiped the car and was sent into Paramount Boulevard, where he was struck by a Toyota Camry.

Rick Rodriguez, a local business owner and community leader, said his son, Anthony, worked at the shop with Callejas.

“They were very close friends. As you can imagine it’s a tough time for those young guys at the S&H shop,” Rodriguez said. “They are all raising funds now to assist the family for funeral costs.”

“Tonight we learn that one of our family members Darwin Callejas has lost his life,” S&H Automotive posted on Facebook. “This shows us that life is important and short. Now one of the best persons to be around and have around has been taken away… Darwin i know you’re reading this post dedicated to you from all of us and just know that you will truly be missed!!”

I will post more information on fundraising efforts as it becomes available.

Callejas graduated from Downey High School in 2009.
