Dr. John Garcia will earn an annual salary of $216,769 when he is formally hired as superintendent by the Downey board of education tonight.
The four-year contract runs through March 17, 2017.
No guaranteed salary increases are included in the contract, although the school board “reserves the right, at any time during the term of this Contract, to increase” Garcia’s pay.
Garcia receives 14 sick days per year (accumulative). This is in addition to sick leave “for any number of personal necessity days.”
He receives 22 vacation days annually, which can be rolled over year-to-year. The vacation days can be cashed out at whatever salary he is making at the time.
Garcia receives the same health benefits as other management employees and he must undergo an annual medical examination to confirm he is physically fit to perform his duties as superintendent.
Garcia’s contract can be terminated by the school board at any time with written notice.
