Downey councilman and state senate candidate Mario Guerra today called on Sen. Rod Wright to resign, after the veteran lawmaker was convicted this week of perjury and voter fraud.
“Senator Wright’s actions and those of elected officials like him are becoming commonplace, rather than the exception,” Guerra said in a statement. “Week after week, we read about a public official who placed their self interests above those of the people they swore to represent. This most recent verdict merely emphasizes that the wrong people are representing our communities in Sacramento.”
In November, Guerra also asked for Sen. Ron Calderon’s resignation, citing a federal indictment that accused Calderon of soliciting bribes.
