Mayor Mario Guerra is in a hospital tonight as he undergoes emergency eye surgery for a detached retina.
Guerra announced the procedure on social media this afternoon.
“Life changes quickly,” Guerra tweeted. “Going into emergency eye surgery at UCLA med Center. Detached retina in good eye. Prayers help.”
Guerra had surgery on his other eye in 2009, immobilizing him for three weeks, although he didn’t miss a council meeting.
Guerra had just returned to Downey after traveling to San Diego on Friday for UCLA’s bowl game.
