House destroyed after 2 fires
WRITTEN BY :   Eric Pierce

A vacant downtown Downey house went up in flames twice Thursday, prompting an investigation by fire officials.

The first fire was reported at about 3:30 a.m. at a home located at 8138 4th St.

Firefighters from Engine 63 responded and discovered heavy flames throughout the single-story residence. Fire crews protected nearby homes and structures while the blaze was extinguished.

Firefighters returned later that night after a second fire was reported at the same home.

Authorities deemed the fire “suspicious” and are investigating.
