JPL engineer to talk asteroids, comets
WRITTEN BY :   Eric Pierce, Editor

Mark Wallace, a mission design engineer at JPL, will be guest speaker at the Columbia Memorial Space Center’s monthly Saturday Science program this Saturday at 1 p.m.

Wallace’s topic is “Asteroids, Comets and Impact.”

From the space center: “We live in a cosmic shooting gallery, and although we are but a small speck in the cosmos we are still a huge target for asteroids and comet impacts! Billion year old debris from the original formation of the solar system roams our neighborhood, from the impact that annihilated the dinosaurs to the comets that float around like frozen time capsules.

“Come hear Mark Wallace, Mission Designer Engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, talk about these fascinating objects, how we’re searching for them, and what can be done about it.”

Admission to the space center is only $5; children ages 3 and under are free.
