Lingerie night canceled after city steps in
WRITTEN BY :   Eric Pierce

A downtown hookah lounge has canceled its planned lingerie event Thursday after city officials intervened, saying such an event violated city code.

The hookah bar had offered to waive its $5 cover charge to women dressed in lingerie. It was also promoting a “booty-shaking” contest with women competing for prizes.

Officials at city hall said they began fielding complaints from residents after our story published Monday.

“This is unacceptable and cannot and will not be tolerated in our City,” Mayor Pro Tem Fernando Vasquez said.

City officials said the lingerie night was forbidden under the hookah lounge’s conditional use permit.

The event was formally canceled Tuesday.
