A man was sentenced today to 25 years to life in prison for killing a Mexican actor in his Downey home during a shootout four years ago that left the defendant paralyzed.
Larry Paul Trujillo, 34, was sentenced by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Rand Rubin. Trujillo pleaded no contest in May to one count of first-degree murder.
Trujillo fatally shot 53-year-old Hermilio Franco in the chest on Nov. 3, 2010 during a botched home invasion robbery. Franco and his wife awoke after Trujillo and an unknown second suspect entered Franco’s home on the 9300 block of Gainford St.
Franco, an actor who appeared in various Mexican films, grabbed his gun and fired at Trujillo, striking him in the neck. The second suspect escaped, but Trujillo was unable to move and was left paralyzed.
