Five things to know this Monday morning:

.) Live entertainment is being sought for the International Food Festival (previously known as the Taste of Downey) happening Saturday, Sept. 20, on Downey Avenue. If you are an artist or musician and would like to participate, contact Mia Vasquez at

.) The Downey Rose Float Association will have its general meeting this Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings.

.) The city of Downey was supposed to host a World Cup viewing party but there hasn’t been much publicity about it. Is it still happening? I don’t know. The U.S. plays Germany on Thursday morning. (UPDATE: the city says there will be a World Cup viewing party Sunday, July 13, at Downey Avenue and 3rd Street, with food trucks, bands, games and children’s activities.)

.) The Downey Kids Bike Festival, featuring obstacle courses, skills stations and a group bicycle ride, takes place this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Griffiths Middle School. The Downey Bicycle Coalition is a co-sponsor.

.) Natalia Loya, a Doty Middle School student and finalist on “La Voz Kids,” ¬†will sing the national anthem at tomorrow’s City Council meeting.
