Councilman Mario Guerra’s annual town hall meeting is Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Barbara J. Riley Community and Senior Center.
Guerra has hosted these meetings in each of his six years on the council and they’re always informative and even entertaining. (Last year, Guerra made the infamous quip about Downey not being “white enough or rich enough” to attract a Trader Joe’s. Not the most tactful way of saying things but nobody disputed its accuracy.)
Unfortunately, the issues facing Downey today are much more serious than dried fruit and two-buck chuck. The city is facing an effort to disband the Downey Fire Department and two council seats are up for grabs on Election Day. Not to mention Tierra Luna, economic redevelopment, road conditions, traffic, downtown, etc.
Now more than ever it’s important to make your voice heard and let your elected leaders — and fellow residents — know where you stand on the issues.
