A second basic life support ambulance went into service at 6:30 a.m. today, “improving emergency medical services to its residents,” Downey officials announced.
The new ambulance will be stationed at Fire Station No. 2 on Imperial Highway. Since 1999, Downey has operated only one ambulance, stationed at Fire Station No. 3 on Paramount Boulevard.
“Each ambulance is staffed with two non-sworn fire department personnel trained as emergency medical technicians and are fire academy graduates,” the Downey Fire Department said in a statement.
Downey residents should also consider enrolling in the city’s optional Emergency Transportation Subscription service, which offers permanent household residents unlimited emergency transportation services within city limits for $48 per year.
