Tuesday Afternoon Report, June 17
WRITTEN BY :   Eric Pierce

You probably noticed our website was down this morning. Sorry about that, I don’t really know what to say other than it’s just as frustrating for me as it is to you. Probably definitely more so.

Five things you need to know this Tuesday afternoon:

1.) Downey Police have arrested a teenage boy in connection with a May 24 beating that left a man critically injured with severe head trauma. Authorities did not identify the suspect but said he was booked for attempted murder. He is currently housed at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall.

Police say the victim was targeted and deliberately attacked at about 10:30 p.m. near Florence Avenue and Orizaba Street. He remains on life support at a local hospital.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with additional information is asked to call Detective Mike Galindo at (562) 904-2330 or Detective Robert Del Rio at (562) 904-2324.

2.) The Daily Mail did a nice write-up (although with some weird photos) of the oldest-operating McDonald’s. Click here to read it.

3.) In-N-Out announced it is raising its prices. A double-double will now cost $3.45, up 15 cents. Hamburgers and cheeseburgers will each cost an additional 10 cents, and soda prices increased a nickel.

4.) Best-selling authors Shaun Morey and Tyler Dilts will headline an author’s luncheon Saturday, June 28, at the Rio Hondo Event Center. Tickets are $25 and include a buffet lunch and book. They can be purchased by calling Marilyn Van Dyke at (562) 714-6515.

5.) A comedy night fundraiser to support Warren High School’s football program will be held Tuesday, July 22, at the Rio Hondo Event Center. Tickets are $25 and include all-you-can-eat barbecue and a show featuring 2-3 comedians. For tickets, contact Louis Morales at (310) 350-0220 or
