Five things to know this Tuesday morning:
1.) The CIF Southern Section released its All-CIF teams for baseball, softball and boys volleyball yesterday. Tyler Tungate and Gabriel Llanes (Downey), and Alan Trejo (Warren), were named to All-CIF baseball team, while Rachel Rodriguez (Downey) and Taylor Gallo (Warren) made All-CIF for softball. Daniel Vasquez (Warren) earned All-CIF honors in volleyball.
2.) City officials will host a groundbreaking ceremony this afternoon to signal the start of construction on Lakewood Boulevard. The public ceremony begins at 4 p.m. at Woodlake Center.
From a press release: The Lakewood Boulevard Improvement Project (Phase 3B) will involve major construction work, between Florence Avenue and Gallatin Road. Over the past several years, the City has been incrementally improving the Lakewood Boulevard corridor through a series of multi-phased construction projects that have enhanced traffic flow efficiency and safety, as well as improved and extended the life of the infrastructure along Lakewood Boulevard.”
3.) Former California governor George Deukmejian has endorsed Mario Guerra for state Senate.
“I appreciate his endorsement as I feel he was one of the great pragmatic leaders in our state’s history,” Guerra said. “His leadership and his vision for California, including his ‘Common Sense Society’ is what our state desperately needed when he was our governor, and what we need now. This vision and values approach is what I hope to bring to Sacramento once elected.”
4.) A photo circulating on Facebook is said to depict a kitten “suffering” at the county animal shelter in Downey.
