Five things to know this Wednesday morning:
1.) The Planning Commission tonight will consider final approval of go-g0 dancers at Club DB Lounge.
On a 3-2 vote, commissioners last month gave preliminary approval to go-go dancers at the nightclub, unleashing a torrent of criticism from conservative Downey residents. If the Planning Commission again approves go-go dancers tonight, it’s likely the decision will be appealed to the City Council.
“I encourage all residents to attend and voice their concerns,” said Mayor Fernando Vasquez.
2.) Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center will have a nursing open house next Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 10 a.m. to noon and 2-4 p.m. RSVP by contacting Sharon Arnwine, RN, at (562) 401-7912 or firstname.lastname@example.org
3.) National University inside Stonewood Center is having a “back-to-school” night today from 6-8:30 p.m. National University offers degrees in more than 100 fields.
4.) We received details yesterday on the heavy police activity reported early Monday morning. According to the Downey Police Department, the CHP was pursuing a motorcyclist at 3 a.m. when the suspect fled into an apartment complex on the 7900 block of Cole Street.
The Sheriff’s Department’s helicopter assisted in finding the suspect, who was eventually taken into custody without incident.
5.) Concerts in the park wrap up tonight with the Wise Guys big band, who perform at 7 p.m. Don’t be too sad, though, Downtown Downey’s rooftop events launch next Wednesday.
