Five things to know this Wednesday morning: 

1.) Allison Iraheta’s band, Halo Circus, has announced a Friday night residency at the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood. Iraheta, the former Downey resident who was a finalist in season 8 of “American Idol,” said she’s “excited for all that’s on the horizon” for her band.

“When we got offered the residency, it felt like a wonderful stamp of approval from such an influential venue that’s one of our favorite places to play,” she said. The residency begins Sept. 26.

Pastor Daphne Gascot Arias has been announced as the new minister at Downey Memorial Christian Church. She received her Master of Divinity degree from the Iliff School of Theology and was ordained in 2013.

Pastor Daphne, who is proficient in English, Spanish and Portuguese, will lead her first service Sunday at 10 a.m.
