Friday morning report, July 10

Five things to know this Friday morning: 

1.) Nancy Farina of Downey was the winner of Hometown Hardware and Garden's $1,000 shopping spree. 

Farina was chosen at random from hundreds of entries submitted at the store between Feb. 26 and May 1. 

Hometown Hardware and Garden is celebrating its third anniversary tomorrow by giving away a free hot dog and soda to all customers between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

2.) Downey Court Townhomes, the new development at 7634 Stewart & Gray Rd., will have a public grand opening today from 3-5 p.m. 


3.) St. John Bosco broke ground yesterday on a new athletic center. From a press release: 

"The new athletic field and track will occupy more than 124,000 square feet of our 36-acre campus. The all-weather running track surface will be the standard distance of 400 meters and include an eight-lane 120-meter straightaway.

"In addition to hosting track meets, the complex will serve as a practice and competition facility for soccer, football, lacrosse and rugby. Youth soccer teams from the surrounding communities also will compete on the field."

4.) Councilman Sean Ashton posted this Facebook from Temple Park's re-dedication on Tuesday. 


5.) St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy will be running 15-second commercial spots at the Edwards Theatre in South Gate and the AMC in Norwalk this summer.
