Monday morning report, March 14

Five things to know this Monday morning:

1.) Parts of southwest Downey are reporting power outages this morning.

Downey isn't listed on a map of current outages on Southern California Edison's website, but residents reported their lights going dim late night before going totally dark early this morning.

2.) The intersection of Downey Avenue and Firestone Boulevard was decorated yesterday to celebrate Downey's 60th anniversary. The street markings are in addition to banners installed last week.

3.) A pair of twins from Warren High School are fundraising to help pay their college expenses.

Even if you can't donate, you should at least read their story to get inspired about Downey's youth.

4.) Chris Pelonis, the namesake behind Chris & Pitts Restaurant, celebrated his 94th birthday yesterday.

5.) Retired Downey firefighter Forrest Darling has died, the Downey Fire Department announced

Darling joined the department in 1967 and became one of the department's original paramedics in 1974. He retired in 1994.
