Monday morning report, April 18

Five things to know this Monday morning:

1.) A man "running in circles" on the 105 Freeway in Downey was struck and killed early yesterday morning.

The man, who has not been publicly identified, was struck by a 50-year-old Riverside woman driving a Honda Odyssey. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.


2.) Emely Lopez was crowned Miss Downey Saturday night at the Downey Theatre.

Emely, who graduated from Warren High last year, is already a great ambassador for Downey. She was president of Girl's League, member of the Downey Youth Commission, and a student ambassador for the Downey Arts Coalition.

She currently works at Downey Federal Credit Union while pursuing a degree at Cal State Long Beach.


3.) Friné Medrano, who has announced she is running to replace Roger Brossmer on the City Council, has created a website and social media accounts, including Facebook and Instagram.


4.) Volunteers are needed for the Carnival of Champions at Warren high on April 30.

5.) Jay Leno was at the Columbia Memorial Space Center earlier this month to film an episode of his latest series, "Jay Leno's Garage."
