Monday morning report, April 25

Five things to know this Monday morning:

1.) Power appears to be restored this morning after a transformer explosion knocked out electricity to nearly a thousand homes and businesses Sunday evening.

Alicia Edquist reported that crews were expected to work past midnight to restore power. Businesses at the Promenade were evacuated due to the power outage.

2.) A driver escaped injury after overturning his vehicle and crashing into a power pole yesterday morning.

The single-vehicle collision occurred on Woodruff, south of Washburn Road.

3.) Downey actress Ashley Campuzano is sponsoring a prom giveaway contest. Deadline to enter is today.

4.) Former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Tiquan Underwood and CFL quarterback Jacory Harris were at Downey High last week, where they met with football coach Jack Williams.

5.) The Downey Theatre is now accepting vendor applications for the Oct. 30 Dia de los Muertos event.

The vendor fee is $175 if paid before Aug. 1. Vendors receive a 10x10 booth, table, chairs, decorations and lighting. At least half of the vendor's products must be Dia de los Muertos-themed.
