Five things to know this Monday morning:
1.) Work on Downey's Rose Parade entry is in high gear, and volunteers are working virtually around the clock to get it finished.
Volunteers are needed between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. The Rose Float barn is located at 13030 Erickson Ave., on the south Rancho campus. The easier way to get there is via Gardendale Street.
2.) Applications are now being accepted for the 2016 Miss Downey Pageant.
Orientation for contestants will be held Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church. The pageant is April 16.
For more details, call Jennifer at (562) 714-5658. Applications are available in the Miss Downey Pageant Facebook group.
3.) Downey's Bobby Lafromboise was claimed off waivers by the Angels last week.
Lafromboise, a 29-year-old left-handed reliever, posted a 1.13 ERA in 11 major league appearances last year.
Most of the complaints seem to center on Cinemark's concession stand.
5.) The Courtyard Motel at 9403 Firestone Blvd. is for sale. Asking price: $3.5 million.
The motel was built in 1956 and boasts 31 rooms.
