Five things to know this Monday morning:
1.) A 22-year-old Downey man died Saturday after drowning off the coast of San Diego.
Azfar Alam was unconscious when he was pulled from the La Jolla Cove. A teenage girl also was found unresponsive, but she survived.
2.) If you receive a call purportedly from the L.A. County Sheriff's Department threatening a $2,000 fine due to missed jury duty, it's a scam.
3.) Auditors with state Homeland Security visited the Downey Fire Department last week.
4.) Century 21 My Real Estate is collecting donations for an Aug. 1 sidewalk sale, with proceeds benefiting Easter Seals.
Furniture and clothing are particularly sought. To make a donation, call Rowena at (562) 319-9883.
5.) The Downey Arts Coalition has moved its next open house to Tuesday, July 28, at the Epic Lounge.
The event begins at 7:30 p.m. and will include an improv comedy short by Forrest Hartl.
