Monday morning report, March 28

Five things to know this Monday morning:

1.) Downey schools are on spring break this week. Classes resume April 5.

2.) A homeless family in Downey needs some help, specifically with pants and shoes for a little boy.

The charity organization L.A. on Cloud 9 also is trying to get the mother a job, and needs a temporary foster home for the family's chihuahua. If you can help, call (323) 920-9729 or email info@laoncloud9.org.

3.) A fan site makes a case to give Downey's Bobby LaFromboise a spot in the Philadelphia Phillies' bullpen.

"LaFromboise has been nearly spotless in his work this spring, striking out eight batters in 7.1 innings.  The deceptive lefty has also not allowed an earned run this exhibition season.  He has truly placed himself into a situation where he could win one of the final spots in the bullpen.  Most of the jobs have been claimed, but with one (possibly two) spots left, LaFromboise is heavily in the conversation."

4.) The man who took his girlfriend hostage at a Redlands Office Depot last week was from Downey.

Andrew Mike, 29, was fatally shot by police after he shot his girlfriend in the torso. She remains in critical condition.

5.) Here is an artist's rendering of proposed remodeling at Downey First Christian Church (scroll down).

The congregation plans an April 3 meeting to discuss the renovations.
