Monday morning report, March 7

Five things to know this Monday morning:

1.) The Coca-Cola bottling plant has full-time job openings for general laborers. You can apply online here.

2.) As Alicia Edquist tweeted over the weekend, Pick Up Stix is now open at the Promenade.

3.) The Jack in the Box at Firestone Boulevard and Woodruff Avenue closed two weeks ago, and will be replaced with a Raising Cane's.

4.) With heavy rains expected today, the Downey Fire Department is reminding residents to stay away from downed power lines.

"Today's winter thunderstorm will create gusty winds. The fire department responds to numerous downed power lines during such storms. Downed power lines can remain energized. Isolate the perimeter around downed power lines and call 9-1-1 to report its location."

5.) Assembly Speaker-elect Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) will be formally sworn in as the 70th Speaker of the California State Assembly at 1 p.m. today.

The swearing-in ceremony will be live-streamed here. A small portion of Rendon's district is in Downey.
