Monday morning report, Sept. 28

Five things to know this Monday morning:

1.) The Downey Rotary team of Greg Welch and Russell Skersick took third place in Rotary's annual cardboard boat contest last week.

Their boat was called the "Wet Willy."

.) Stay Gallery has produced a mini-documentary on Don Lamkin and his upcoming solo exhibit, "3 Years," which opens Oct. 23.

As the name implies, the exhibit celebrates Stay's three-year anniversary.

3.) James Prentice, a former professional wrestler from Downey who performed under the alias "The Drunken Irishman," died last week

I don't have details on his death, though the Internet Wrestling Database lists his death as a result of natural causes.

4.) Warren High School has launched a new online newsletter. Click here to read the first issue (PDF).

5.) The Downey Conservancy is hosting a fundraiser at Stox this Saturday.

Between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., present this flier and 20% of your purchase will be donated to the Conservancy. Valid for dining room only.
