Tuesday morning report, July 19

Five things to know this Tuesday morning:

1.) Downey First Christian Church is seeking donations as it prepares for a humanitarian trip to Ecuador.

The church specifically needs school supplies, Playdough, deflated soccer balls, towels, educational games, and other items for school-age children. Here is a complete list of needs.

2.) Pre-sale tickets are now on sale for a series of comedy shorts at the Epic Lounge next month.

"Bill's Shorts Two: Chart-Topping Comedies" are five short plays "inspired by the power of music." Performances are Aug. 14 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.; Aug. 15-17 at 8 p.m.; and Aug. 22-24 at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $10 at brownpapertickets.com (use access code "shortshorts").

3.) District 1 city council candidate Blanca Pacheco is hosting a fundraiser Tuesday, July 26, from 4-8 p.m. at Joseph's.

Sponsorship levels start at $50.

4.) The El Taco property at 7665 Firestone Blvd. is for sale. Asking price: $1.845 million.

To be clear, you're buying only the land, not the restaurant.

5.) A 17-year-old boy arrested in Santa Fe Springs over the weekend was wearing body armor and carrying a loaded AR-15, police said yesterday.
