Thursday morning report, Dec. 24

Five things to know this Thursday morning:

1.) City Hall and most major public facilities are closed today. Perhaps more importantly, Porto's Bakery closes at 6 p.m.

2.) Students from OLPH School's Interact Club visited the Country Inn senior living facility, where they hand-delivered more than 200 scarves and mittens. The school posted pictures from the visit on Facebook.

3.) The city of Downey announced it will again participate in the Homeless Count, an annual inventory of Downey's homeless residents.

The count will be held Jan. 26 starting at 7:30 p.m. Volunteers are needed to walk Downey neighborhoods to count and interact with the homeless.

For more details, or to sign-up as a volunteer, call Kim Barnette of Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority at (213) 507-0169 or click here

4.) A liquor store at Imperial Highway and Paramount Boulevard is for sale. Asking price: $110,000 (not including inventory).

According to the ad, the liquor store has a 30-year lease (sigh).

5.) Here are some of the best Christmas displays in Downey, as suggested by Nextdoor users.
