Thursday morning report, July 2

Five things to know this Thursday morning: 

1.) The Downey City Library has part-time and full-time job openings for a librarian. 

"The current vacancy is for full-time employment in Adult Services; however, the Eligibility List established from this recruitment may be used to meet other full-time and temporary/part-time staffing needs."


2.) Bands, solo artists and dancers are sought for the city's Dia de los Muertos event on Nov. 1. 

There is no pay, but performers can sell their CDs and merchandise, and will be promoted in the theater's marketing materials.

3.) St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy has announced plans for a "grand reunion" for all past alumni of St. Matthias and Pius X. 

The event will take place Oct. 24 on the campus grounds, and includes lunch, live music, campus tours, a hall of fame induction ceremony, and cocktails and dancing.

4.) Downey Art Vibe has been awarded $10,600 from the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.

More than $4.5 million was awarded by the commission to 184 county arts organizations. The money is allocated by the L.A. County Board of Supervisors. 


5.) Rev. Cliff Rubin will be guest lecturer at the Downey Church for Spiritual LIving for the month of July. 

Rubin is the senior minister for the Virtual Center for Spiritual Living, an online spiritual community. He regularly travels around the country as a speaker. 

Rubin will speak in Downey all four Sundays in Downey. The Downey Church for Spiritual Living is located at 10000 Paramount Blvd.
