Thursday morning report, July 7

Five things to know this Thursday morning:

1.) On July 4, Downey police officers issued 12 citations for fireworks violations, nine of which involved the use of illegal fireworks, each a $2,000 fine.

The other three citations were for legal fireworks discharged outside of the permitted hours, which is a $100 fine.

2.) Frank Kearns was profiled by Downey Daily Photos in its "Humans of Downey" feature.

Frank speaks a little about a joint project we're working on: an anthology of "Shared Stories", stories written by students in a Norwalk Senior Center writing class.

3.) Here is the latest issue of Downey's Neighborhood Watch newsletter.

One interesting piece of information is you can request Downey PD do an extra patrol of your house when you leave for vacation.

4.) Movita Juice Bar is looking to hire an experienced manager.

5.) A Downey woman with ties to Florencia 13 was convicted Tuesday on racketeering and drug trafficking charges. She is scheduled to be sentenced in October.
