Thursday morning report, June 18

Five things to know this Thursday morning:

1.) Downey's Leroy Patterson was on the KTLA Morning Show on Monday. Video clip above.

2.) "Nightcrawler," the 2014 suspense film starring Jake Gyllenhaal, is available on Netflix. Not only is it a great movie, it also includes a Downey reference (listen carefully, it happens quick).

3.) Don Lamkin has unveiled the mural commissioned by the city of South Gate. It will be more than 53 feet long and 10 feet tall when it's painted in the Hollydale neighborhood this summer.

It was inspired by "Downey Doodle-icious," which Lamkin painted on the side of the Porto's Bakery parking garage downtown.

4.) The Downey City Library is partnering with Lock & Key Social Drinkery for a beer education and tasting seminar this Monday at 5:30 p.m.

The event is free but only for adults ages 21 and older. Valid ID is required.

5.) The Downey Symphony Guild has scheduled a fundraiser barbecue for July 21 at the Rio Hondo Event Center. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $13 for kids under 12. RSVPs are due July 14. For more details, call Katie Hare at (562) 861-8507.
