Five things to know this Thursday morning: 

1.) Gaucho Grill celebrates its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. today. 

Light appetizers will be served, and food and drinks will be discounted 25 percent.


2.) U.S. Olympic water polo silver medalist Patty Cardenas visited Price Elementary on Tuesday, sharing with students her experiences at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. 

Cardenas attended Bell Gardens High School and even has her own Wikipedia page.


3.) Assemblymember Cristina Garcia has announced a "community coffee" event July 30 from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Barbara Riley Center. 

Visitors can meet Garcia and discuss ideas or concerns about legislative issues. 


4.) A senior living complex in Lakewood is asking residents to submit their dogs' DNA to determine who isn't picking up after their pets. 


5.) A group called the Friends of the Downey Police K9 Foundation claims to be raising funds in support of Downey's canine detail.
