Tuesday morning report, Jan. 5

Five things to know this Tuesday morning:

1.) Gangs Out of Downey meets at 7:30 a.m. today in the second floor training room at City Hall.

2.) Warren High will host an alumni college panel tonight starting at 6 p.m. in the library.

Current students and their parents can hear from Warren High alumni who will tell of their experiences at John's Hopkins, Cal Poly Pomona, UCLA, Wake Forest, UC Irvine, the University of San Francisco, Cal State Long Beach, and other schools.

The event is free and organized by the Academic Booster Council.

3.) Downey has launched a mass notification system called "Downey Alerts." By signing up, residents can receive notifications "about emergencies that may affect your home, workplace, child's school, parents' home, or any other locations within our community."

Sign up here.

4.) Yesterday I posted a link to a KPCC report that claimed Downey declined to implement financial controls recommended by a county grand jury (one of the fallouts from the Bell scandal).

The link was forwarded to me by John Paul Drayer, who failed to disclose that the article was 18 months old and out of date.

I apologize for posting a link to an outdated story.

5.) Four Downey High football players, and one from Warren, have been named to the Press-Telegram's Dream Team.
