Tuesday Morning Report, May 5

Five things to know this Tuesday morning: 

1.) Albertson’s supermarket was named Large Business of the Year, and Minuteman Press was honored as Small Business of the Year, at the Downey Chamber of Commerce’s 112th anniversary luncheon last week.

Other honorees included Joanna Peterson of Gallatin Dental as Director of the Year, and MaryAnn Sourial of the Downey Patriot as Volunteer of the Year.

2.) Gangs Out of Downey meets at 7:30 a.m. today in the second floor training room of Downey City Hall.

3.) The Downey Cemetery District Board of Trustees meets at 5 p.m. today in council chambers. On the agenda: discussing a niche buy-back policy; cremains interments allowed per niche policy; and niche cremation container policy.

Trustees are also expected to finalize the Memorial Day program.

4.) Two men attempting to steal diesel fuel instead caused a large spill that took hours to clean up Sunday. The vandals are still at-large. PT
