Tuesday morning report, Sept. 6

Five things to know this Tuesday morning:

1.) Gangs Out of Downey meets at 7:40 a.m. today in the second floor training room at City Hall.

2.) Downey High grad and USC linebacker Jabari Ruffin put himself in the national spotlight this past weekend after stomping on an opponent's groin during the Trojans' 52-6 loss to Alabama.

His punishment: Ruffin has to write a letter of apology and will sit out the first half of USC's game versus Utah State on Saturday.

“Jabari is a good kid that made a poor, emotional decision,” head coach Clay Helton told the L.A. Times.

3.) Apparently there's an abandoned swimming pool underneath Stonewood Center? (Thanks to the Downey Conservancy for the link.)

4.) The Downey Chamber of Commerce has posted more than 200 photos from its golf tournament last week.

5.) Complimentary tickets to a screening of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" at the Epic Lounge on Sept. 25 have been claimed, but VIP tickets are still available.

VIP tickets are $15 and include entry plus two drinks (plus you're supporting the arts in Downey). Buy them here

The screening is being put on by GlennFest Film Festival.
