Wednesday morning report, Aug. 12

Five things to know this Wednesday morning: 

1.) Community development director Aldo Schindler will be guest speaker at the Downey Chamber of Commerce's City Affairs meeting today. His topic is Code Enforcement. 

The meeting begins at noon at Farmers and Merchant Bank. 

2.) Rooftop concerts return tonight with a performance by country rock band Smith

The concert starts at 7 p.m. and also features art, food vendors, arts and crafts for the kids, and more. 

3.) "Can the city of Downey order me to demolish my pool house den and washroom?"

4.) Downey Nissan gave a $1,000 scholarship to Jennifer Xilo for having the highest GPA at Downey High School this past school year. 

General manager Mohammad Basith presented the check along with his staff. Jennifer was joined by her parents, Fernando Xilo and Lorena Espinoza, and sister, Jessica Xilo, a previous Downey Nissan scholarship recipient who is currently attending Stanford. 

5.) Mosaik Hookah Lounge downtown is hiring for waiter and waitress positions.
