Wednesday morning report, June 15

Five things to know this Wednesday morning:

1.) City Council district 1 candidate Blanca Pacheco will host a fundraising event tonight to formally kick-off her election campaign.

The party is hosted by Assemblymember Cristina Garcia, Mayor Pro Tem Fernando Vasquez and resident Mario Trujillo.

For details on attending, contact Mariana Pacheco at or (562) 244-8281.

2.) A memorial site has been created for Linda Kennedy, the Downey community leader who died this past weekend.

A memorial scholarship fund is being established at Downey High in her name. Contributions can be made at Downey Federal Credit Union (checking account number No. 114801-S2).

3.) Between now and Sunday, B's Barbershop, located at 8333 Firestone Blvd., is offering free haircuts to the first five dads who are also business owners.

Dads also receive free beard shaves and nose and ear grooming.

If you're not one of the first five dads and business owners, you can still receive 50 percent off their regular prices.

4.) Here is Instagram video of last week's STEAM Festival.

5.) And here is a cool picture of past Downey Rotary presidents. Lots of great civic leaders in that picture.
