Wednesday morning report, Sept. 7

Five things to know this Wednesday morning:

1.) Soroptimist International of Downey installed three new members last week: Luz Perez, Cecilia Gonez and Melissa Barger. They're pictured above with Soroptimist president Blanca Rochin and VP of membership Dorothy Pemberton.

To join Soroptimist, call Dorothy Pemberton at (310) 717-3637.

2.) Downey resident Lucy Hickey celebrated her 103rd birthday Sunday at Downey United Methodist Church, where she was presented a proclamation on behalf of the City of Downey.

Lucy still walks, drives "and is a delightful conversationalist."

3.) I'm experimenting with polls on the Downey Patriot's twitter feed. As you can see we're putting to rest some very important debates:

4.) Two people desperately want to be mayor of Carson, and are embarrassing the city in the process.

5.) Online registration is now open for Gangs Out of Downey's golf tournament on Oct. 7. Register here.
