Wednesday morning report, Sept. 9

Five things to know this Wednesday morning:

1.) The Rotary Club of Downey is in need of at least two wheelchairs -- including one pediatric wheelchair -- for its "1,000 Smiles" project which helps children with cleft palette surgeries in Ensenada.

If you have a wheelchair you are willing to donate, contract Richard Strayer at (714) 600-6614 or email richard11601@hotmail.com.

2.) Downey's Leroy Patterson, also known as the human tackboard, was finally eliminated from "America's Got Talent" last week. That's him above, throwing himself on mouse traps.

3.) The Secretary of State has made it super easy to search state political contributions online.

4.) Here's great video of Warren High's band and color guard preview performance from last week.

5.) Conditions at L.A. County animal shelters are improving, but activists still call the conditions inhumane, reports the L.A. Times. Here's our original story from last month, which started the controversy.
