NOTICE OF INTENT TO ADOPT A MITIGATED NEGATIVE DECLARATION
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Downey Unified School District (“District”) intends to adopt an Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration for the Downey High School Softball Field Lighting Improvements Project.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Downey Unified School District Office proposes to construct a modern lighting system on the existing varsity softball field located at the Downey High School. Permanent components of the project would include: 1) Six self-supporting steel monopole structures up to 60 feet tall. Each monopole would be supported by a precast concrete pile buried into the earth. On each pole would be mounted lighting fixtures containing an array of metal halide and LED lamps. Depending on pole location, the number of lighting fixtures ranges from two to four per pole. Lights would be mounted at varying heights on the pole ranging from 45 to 60 feet. 2) One electrical cabinet mounted on a two-foot by six-foot by one-foot-deep concrete pad. It would contain an electrical distribution panel, monitoring, and control equipment. The cabinet would be designed to distribute steady power, ensure proper electrical grounding, afford appropriate security, and provide protection from the elements for the electrical equipment.
PROJECT LOCATION: Downey High School Varsity Softball Field located at 11040 Brookshire Ave, Downey, CA 90241.
NOTICE IS HEREBY FURTHER GIVEN An Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/IMND) and a Mitigation Monitoring Program have been prepared for the project in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), Section 15162 and the Downey Unified School District procedures for implementing CEQA and are recommended for adoption since the proposed project has incorporated adequate mitigation and will not have a significant impact on the environment.
