An 8-ft. fiberglass sculpture has been proposed as the second addition to the city's Art in Public Places program.

"Reveal" by Downey-based artist Jameel Haiat is a casting of Neptune wrapped in a tarp. According to Haiat, the sculpture represents "the birth of culture and the loss of culture."

Haiat's work has been featured at Disneyland, Legoland and Universal Studios.

Louie Christopolous submitted an application to place the sculpture outside a new shopping strip he recently developed at 9637 Lakewood Blvd. (south of Gallatin Road).

The Art in Public Places Advisory Commitee has recommended the statue be approved, but the City Council will ultimately have the final say when it votes on the matter tonight.

The Art in Public Places program is funded by a 1% fee assessed on large-scale development projects.
