DOWNEY – Downey High School senior Jonathan Strang went undefeated again this year to help the L.A. County Juniors win their regional qualifier at El Cariso Golf Course in Sylmar.
Strang won three junior tournaments over the summer but finished in second place, one stroke behind the winner in the PLGA Junior Boys Championship after shooting a 3-under par 69 at Mount Meadows Golf Club in September.
At El Cariso, Strang was paired with PLGA girls champion Arica Rodriguez, of Whittier, who made a number of long putts to secure their matches.
Strang and Rodriguez will next participate in the L.A. County/PLGA Partner’s Cup Final to be held Sunday at Mountain Meadows. Four regional winners will go head-to-head.
The Partner’s Cup is a yearly event that matches 20 men’s club teams from the L.A. County Public Links Golf Association, including Downey’s Los Amigos Men’s Club, in a team match-play golf tournament. One of the teams is comprised of junior golfers from L.A. County.
