Sorry, Team Edward: ‘New Moon’ is bad

Twilight Saga’s ‘New Moon’ must have gained its fame from being a “fad” rather than being a great movie as actors and actresses with little acting talent attempted to make up for the movie’s flaws with their appearances.

The start of New Moon is meant for all the Team Edward fans as Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson, struts onto a plain of grass, quite dazzling in all his glitter and sparkles, to meet his most beloved, and aging, Bella. He continues to strut, maintaining consistency, from nicely positioned and advertised vehicles to right out of Bella’s life, bringing intense sadness to both Bella and his fans.

Luckily for the audience, Bella does not discriminate when it comes to attractive monsters. Jacob Black’s appearance, played by Taylor Lautner, created quite a wave of hormonal reactions, as seen from the noted gasps echoing throughout the movie theater when Jacob slips off his shirt to wipe blood spilling from Bella’s head. Team Jacob—go ahead and smile. However, Jacob did not get as much “playing time” in New Moon as one would expect from the book—Edward is never too far away, lest people should lose interest when the famous vampire vanishes. That might infuriate the many parts of the business world who have not missed their opportunity to make a huge profit off a generation eager to be lost in the romance of a relationship with an attractive vampire, as well as a werewolf. Therefore, don’t forget to buy your Twilight t-shirt.

The one flaw that lies blatant to anyone with eyes is the lack of ability for one specific, and terribly significant, actress to act. Kristen Stewart, who plays Bella, seems to have an incredibly difficult time doing her job in New Moon, though her acting deficiencies were much more apparent in The Twilight Saga’s first move, Twilight. As described in Stephanie Meyer’s novels, the character of Bella is indeed supposed to be awkward. However, Kristen Stewart succeeds in making the entire Twilight movie awkward, adding a whole new level of discomfort in every scene that she appears in. Someone must have given her acting lessons after her first performance in Twilight because the scenes in New Moon were not as horrible, to the relief of the audience members actually there to watch the movie.

Tickets continued to sell out in movie theaters as people, non-readers and diligent fans, loyally wore their nice little buttons and shirts claiming “Team Edward” or “Team Jacob”. Perhaps everyone is so swept away by the appearances of the characters in New Moon that it enabled them to overlook the fact that the movie was not good at all. But, of course, everyone had to absolutely adore New Moon. Didn’t you hear? It’s the new, cool “thing”.

As a way of nature, people are always going to be disagreeing about something. Those of you who basically insulted the writer about her article are ridiculous.

This is a good article. I'm not just saying that because I agree that the books and movies are preposterous, but because she did her job as a writer.

If you want to insult her on her taste, then I’m going to go ahead and say that those of you who “loved” this movie are ridiculous! You obviously don’t know what a good movie is. Your standards are sooo low that this movie falls into the good category.

This article is great. I greatly dislike the Twilight Saga in general (including the movie).

If you want to talk about a good movie, watch The Green Mile or Schinder’s List. Those are good movies.

The movies and books of the Twilight Saga are only making the movie industry richer. Fans are “groping” over characters like Robert which isn’t even good looking.

Joanna, don’t listen to the criticism that people give you about your articles. You’re a talented writer. Keep doing what you do.

And for those of you wasting your time, watching movies like Twilight or reading the books stop wasting our time. Pick up a good book for a change. Go watch a good movie too.

I agree that this wasn't an Oscar-worthy film. Was it enjoyable? Absolutely because it was so close to the story Stephanie Meyer told in her novel. More importantly it is a family friendly movie to watch with your pre-teens and teens. It sparks conversation between parents and their children/nieces, etc. I know it has knocked down some walls between nieces and me. I was able to watch both movies with my children without being embarassed over cursing and nudity, I don't even think there was smoking. I took my 8 year old son to see New Moon and we had a great time. He is so Team Jacob and I'm so Team Edward so it has given us a lot of laughs together. I enjoyed the story told in Stephanie Meyer's book and my son loved Jacob's transformation. Critics have bashed this movie non-stop, yet, they praise some of the trash playing (was the Hangover funny? Yes, but come on). It's a teenage movie that happens to have a lot of adult followers. Read the books then enjoy watching the characters come to life on the big screen. Let's stop being so serious about everything.

The movie wasn't as great as the fans think, but really, I'm not sure that matters. There was a couple parts where my tears welled, but I think it was more from the fact that I've been to that place. The one where you're staring out the window at absolutely nothing. There were definately good points. It was better than the first, by far. Chris Weitz did a nicer job. I agree with a lot of what you say, but mostly because I am one of those fans that is insulted by the fandom. The overbearing devotion to a film that isn't as good as people think it is makes me a little ill.

I have read so many movie reviews on New Moon and am saddened to find that most reviewers write reviews without doing all of their research. If you're going to review a movie that is based on a VERY POPULAR book, why don't you take a week to actually read the book (in this case the series). It would give you so much more insight on the characters and the background of the story. I loved this movie because the writers and director kept it almost identical to the book. For once I walked away from a movie happy that Hollywood didn't toss the storyline aside and create their own version. I would respect the movie reviewer if he/she actually did the background work before writing a lame article. Would you write a sporting article on football game that you've never seen. Would you write a biography about ARod's baseball career, if you've never saw him play? Everyone is so quick to bash these movies -- read the books. I'd respect you more.

Well I see you need glasses New Moon was great. I loved it!! As for Kristen Stewart she did a great job as Bella Swan. Maybe if you really read the books you might see that Bella is to act like that. Soo. Umm. Get your story straight!!!!!

I don't know what you are on, but you are crazy! I went to see the movie with my husband, I am 60, and 3 different parts brought tears to my eyes. The acting is incredibly good!!!
