Abusing the system

Dear Editor:An unemployed woman gives birth to a child and she qualifies for free medical through welfare. The child is born in 1998.

In 2003, the woman gets pregnant again and gives birth to a second child. In 2009, the woman gets pregnant and gives birth to her third child.

The woman is entitled to free medical care as long as her youngest child is 18 years of age or younger. This means the woman will receive free medical for 29 years, which is how long it will take until the youngest child turns 18.

As long as this woman only works part-time, she is not required to pay any-copays for hospitalization, doctor appointments or prescriptions.

Why are our tax dollars paying for this mother to receive free medical for all these years? The aforementioned woman also qualifies for free childcare and has her rent subsidized by HUD (she lives in a three-bedroom apartment).

Isn't this abusing the system since she is benefiting from more than one social welfare program? Cindy Winegar Downey
