Defeat for democracy

Dear Editor:Ms. Roybal-Allard's reaction to the Supreme Court's cowardly punt on Prop 8 has put her true colors on display as she applauds the fact that the votes of over 7 million Californians were instantly disenfranchised by Gov. Jerry Brown and one federal judge. The Supreme Court allowed this egregious act to stand. How ironic for the left to applaud this true act of disenfranchisement while simultaneously decrying the ruling to gut the Voting Rights Act, fearing non-existent mobs will now attempt to stop African-Americans from voting. But we are now living in Bizarro World where people seem to have no right to define their own institutions when such definitions differ from the new convoluted meanings decreed by the left. This victory for the LGBT community in California was a precedent-setting defeat for democracy all across America. Alaina Niemann Downey
