DUI checkpoint next Friday

DOWNEY - A DUI and driver's license checkpoint will be conducted at an undisclosed location in Downey next Friday, June 7 between 8 p.m. and 3 a.m.All drivers who pass through the checkpoint will be checked for signs of alcohol or drug impairment. Officers will also verify driver's licenses. Drivers caught driving impaired "can expect jail, license suspensions and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,000," authorities said. "Over the course of the past three years, there have been 333 DUI-related traffic collisions in the city of Downey," said Police Chief Carl Charles. "These DUI traffic collisions have claimed three lives and resulted in 83 injury crashes harming 140 of our friends and neighbors."
